ISOS is a central structure of the Cluster of Excellence that brings the multidisciplinary research of "The Future Ocean" into the educational realm. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity to exploit synergies in research and teaching at the graduate level, both supporting the emerging science and creating a clear high-quality profile for young researchers within the Cluster.

Our major foci are:

1. to establish a research-driven, multi-disciplinary education platform for PhD candidates of Cluster members
2. to develop and expand an e-learning platform in marine sciences for the CAU
3. to develop joint courses and multidisciplinary lecture series across the many faculties and disciplines represented in the Cluster of Excellence “Future Ocean”

A longer-term goal is to carry marine education outside of the University through expert lecture series and a life-long learning platform for maritime professionals.
