PhD Programme

A central focus of the Integrated School of Ocean Sciences (ISOS) is to provide a structured, multi-disciplinary educational platform for post-graduate students within the Cluster of Excellence 'The Future Ocean'. It is our belief that the research within the cluster, placed at the intersection of various marine disciplines such as the natural sciences, economics and maritime law, presents additional opportunities and places additional demands on the training of young researchers at the PhD level.

General Guidelines for the ISOS PhD Thesis Committee Meetings

On completing their PhD, ISOS participants should be well equipped to independently address and assess multidisciplinary questions pertaining to the academic, societal and legal aspects of the changing oceans. ISOS is a platform of the Excellence cluster and not associated with a particular faculty. Participation in the programme is voluntary and is restricted to candidates supervised by members of the Excellence Cluster, irrespective of the source of their funding. The ISOS PhD Programme is not a rigid curricular degree course, but is intended to support Cluster scientists and their students to gain maximal benefit in their research. We are thus always open for questions, wishes and suggestions and will be developing the programme and course offers in response to the needs emerging.
