Kiel is 'City of Young Scientists 2011'

Research vessel sets off for expedition through schools in Kiel

Kiel has applied for the prize "City of Young Scientists 2011", sponsored by the Körber Foundation, the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Deutsche Telekom Foundation.

It is designed to award cities which have excelled at cooperation between schools and scientific institutions, and which seek to expand and improve on them.

Kiel wrote its application together with many cooperation partners including the Cluster of Excellence "Future Ocean", and in the end won the award.

The idea behind the application is the following: a virtual research vessel is to be sent to schools in Kiel. The students run projects in cooperation with scientists or people from economic partnerships. The results of the school projects will be presented at a scientific festival in May 2011.
