From 25th October to 23rd November 2009, 30 marine scientists from four countries were exploring the tropical North Atlantic. With the research ship METEOR they sailed from Mindelo in the Cape Verde Islands to the south, crossing the equator and returning via a similar route. Along the way they investigated the rate and direction of ocean currents. They also monitored the impact of changes in the oxygen and nutrient content on micro-organisms in the "blue Ocean".
