Changes in Ocean Circulation: Network

The junior research group works closely with the Research Division Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics of the Leibiz Institute for Marine Sciences (IfM-GEOMAR) and the working group Paleoceanography of the Institute of Geosciences. Additionally, it also collaborates with the cluster elements Ocean Acidification and Oceanic CO₂-Uptake and has recourse to the infrastructure provided by the research platforms Ocean Observatories, Isotope and Tracer Analysis and Interdisciplinary Centre for Numerical Simulation at the CAU. The results obtained by this junior research group will be of relevance to the cluster elements Sea Surface Chemistry, Valuing the Ocean, Living Resources and Sea-Level Rise and Coasts at Risk.

On the international level, the junior research group is involved in

• PMIP: the Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project, which assesses atmospheric general circulation models’ (AGCMs) ability to simulate large climate changes such as those that occurred in the distant past,
• C⁴MIP: the Coupled Carbon Cycle Climate Model Intercomparison Project along the lines of the Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project, but for global climate models that include an interactive carbon cycle
• CARBOOCEAN: the Marine carbon sources and sinks assessment project which aims at an accurate scientific assessment of the marine carbon sources and sinks within space and time, funded by the EU FP6
• BioAcid: the Biological Impacts of Ocean Acidification project examines effects of ocean acidification on marine organisms and their habitats. It is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
