A large selection of analytical resources is available in the facilities provided by many different institutes at the CAU. These resources represent the analytical infrastructure for isotope and tracer analysis, which forms the basis of marine research in the network. A broad spectrum of analytical laboratories exists at CAU, covering almost any type of isotope and tracer analysis used in modern marine research. The quality of the data is internationally recognized and new developments made in these excellent laboratories have contributed towards propelling Kiel to the forefront of marine research. We have access to a range of analytical techniques, including mass spectrometry, laser spectroscopy, raster and scanning electron microscopes, as well as electron microprobes. The most up to date ion and gas chromatography techniques are available, as are a variety of laboratories for sample processing. The virtual Tracer Analysis Center (TAC) will be created in the near future, which will provide and coordinate analytical data and advice for scientists at the highest level.
